Nishank cracks the whip against officials

DEHRA DUN: Cracking the whip on negligence and “chalta hai” attitude plaguing sections of the bureaucracy, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank on Monday suspended the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Tehsildar, Nayab Tehsildar and Patwari of Chamoli after they reported that disaster relief cheques worth Rs.2.5 lakh had gone missing.

Similarly, the Additional District Education Officer of Pauri was suspended for negligence in reconstruction of primary schools damaged during the monsoon fury this year. The Block Development Officer of Almora was suspended for negligence in disaster relief works there.

Mr. Nishank ordered the Divisional Commissioners to immediately sanction relief works up to Rs.1crore at their level. Strict action was ordered against heads of departments who did not clear files within a week of receiving them. Talking to The Hindu, Mr. Pokhriyal said that he had received several complaints of officials not paying attention to directives for fast execution of relief works.
