Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' today had to face the ire of the people, who wanted to know the causes of delay in giving a permanent capital to the hill state, formed by carving out hill district of Uttar Pradesh about a decade ago.

The occasion was a seminar organised here by the Uttarakhand Patrakar Parishad on the completion of 10 years of the formation of the state.

After Dr Pokhriyal had spoken for sometime over the achievements of the state during the last ten years, some among the audience wanted him to explain what had happened to the process of finding a permanent capital for their state.

However, he did not come to the issue and called the questioners pessimistic for not noticing the achievements and counting just failures.

This angered the audience and some among them started shouting slogans against him. The seminar was declared closed amid the disturbances.

Leaders of several other political parties had also been invited to the seminar.

Later, talking to reporters, Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment and former Uttarakhand Congress Committee Chief Harish Rawat said political leaders have a duty to answer the questions of the people and listen to their criticism.

Earlier, speaking at the seminar, Mr Rawat said the matter of giving the state a permanent capital should not be kept pending.

He also said both the Congress and the BJP were lacking on this count.

The seminar was also addressed by CPI state leader Samar Bhandari and Nationalist Congress Party.
